Good Afternoon Cameron School District Staff, Families, and Community Members,

It is unconscionable that this afternoon I am sending this communication, however, our school district stakeholders may be confused about a false message/accusation that has surfaced this week and continues to gain traction.

A rumor has started that we allow/provide litter boxes in our bathrooms for those students who identify themselves as “furries”. Let me be clear in this communication. There is NO truth whatsoever to this false statement/accusation. There have never been litter boxes within our schools nor will there ever be!

As a school district we have Board of Education approved handbooks. In it we have a dress code that is to be adhered to. In the last year I have had zero staff members share with me or other administration anything about “furries” in our school.  Besides the occasional dress up days that go along with Homecoming, Read Across America Week, or any of our “club” weeks at the high school such as FFA. We do not allow kids to “dress” up. I can’t think of one single themed day where a kid could dress like an animal, besides Halloween.

It is disappointing that I feel the necessity to communicate this message to you. In this divisive/contentious world we live in; I ask that if you hear wild accusations that don’t sound like something our Cameron School District, Board of Education, or Staff would be a part of to take a minute and email anyone of these individuals.

The Cameron School Districts’ vision is always to “Offer an Exceptional Education Experience”. I believe we do so this on so many levels. This does not mean we can’t always continue to improve, but truly that is what Education is all about “constant improvement”.  I want to thank you for reading this and hope that you and your family enjoy the summer as we are excited about welcoming everyone back in a couple of months.
