Coach Kurt Dikutt, coach of CHS’s Cross Country team, was “readying his team” for the first Varsity Cross Country meet on Sat. Aug. 26th. The meet is took place in Grain Valley, Mo, at the Grain Valley Course. According to Coach Dikutt, the team got ready for their meets in a multitude of ways by long runs at a quick pace, sprints, running up hills, and more.

“The girls team has everybody back basically except for one person, so last year we were a really young team. We’re a bit older this year, and we have some good returning runners and we have some good freshmen that I expect to help out,” Coach Dikkut said.

Junior Khayla Hollingsworth, a returning member of the Cross Country team, “did not feel ready,” for the meet on Aug. 26th. Even though it was only a two mile race for her. “I didn’t feel like I had practiced enough overall,” Hollingsworth said.

“The team this year has a lot of new members so mostly we are trying to get to know each other a bit more. I want it to go well, mostly we are going to have a JV team this year and i want to see all our girls and team members trying their best, even if they’re not on Varsity and I hope we can take this team to state again like we did last year,” Hollingsworth said. Hollingsworth placed as 29th with a time of 16:05.30.
